The jewellery trend that has occupied centre stage for the last couple of years are multiple earrings with the spotlight shining brightly on the “curated ear.” The curated ear is a selected and organised method of combining different types of earrings, from standard studs to huggies to threaders to ear cuffs and many more. Multiple piercings is a look that’s accessible to everyone, regardless of age, budget or profession. As a professional woman in my late 40’s with an wonderful eclectic mix of friends and work colleagues, I believe that multiple ear piercings worn in the right way are not just for the young, but can look chic, stylish into your 40’s, 50s and far beyond.
I truly support the notion that personal style has absolutely nothing to do with ones age but more about attitude and confidence, and even more so when it comes to expressing ourselves with jewellery. So, you might not be strutting your stuff on a beach in a teeny tiny yellow dot bikini in your 40s and 50s (I salute you if you do!) but to express yourself through your choice of jewellery is an easy and understated way to create a more youthful vibe. It’s never too late to update your look when it comes to jewellery.
As we have established ear jewellery in recent years has become more plentiful and has allowed us to experiment with different styles of piercings. A simple pair of studs no longer seems to be enough, which explains the rise in the search term “piercing ear constellation”. Its a term I have fallen in love with, the idea of a constellation ear, much like the star-scapes it’s named after, is to create a scattering of awe and wonder across the ear.

What is the most popular area for piercings ?
The lower earlobe is still amongst the most popular piercing, as it is versatile, and most common. The most popular non- lobe positions are Helix and Tragus. The second hole lobe piercing is still a popular traditional earlobe piercing, which also, pleasantly, is quick to heal. The second hole lobe piercing, is placed slightly above the first hole and creates a flattering artistic accent, which gives you many more options for piercing combinations.
What earrings are proving the most popular?
Hoops and huggies will always have a special place in everyone’s hearts, but it’s not necessarily the best thing to start with, as these can catch and move around. Dainty designs made up of gold, diamonds set in different collets are delightful when piercing your ears for the first time.
